This week we’ll spend some time in the SD State Library’s newest databases, ChiltonLibrary for automotive repair, Mango Languages for language learning and TumblebookLibrary for young readers. All of these are available directly at libraries, schools and college campuses and at home with barcode and password. This lesson is broken into three parts, one section for ChiltonLibrary, one for Mango Languages and one for TumblebookLibrary. Please do Discovery Exercises for all three and see what you can find!

Basic Discovery Exercise

1. Look up the maintenance schedule for your vehicle. View the whole chart and list 3 things that should be done at 30,000 miles.
2. What was the most recent Technical Service Bulletin or Recall notice on your car about and when was it issued?
3. Click to the Repair tab and note some of the information about brakes for your car.
Advanced Discovery Exercise
1. Your neighbor needs to replace the steering wheel on his 1982 Jeep Cherokee. He thinks he can do it himself, but he’d like to see some videos before he gets started. How can you help him?
2. What is the Transmission transaxle part name/number for a 1989 Geo Prizm with 3 speed automatic transmission?
Mango Languages
Mango Languages offers courses in more than 60 languages, including Pirate, to allow users to learn, listen and speak their chosen languages. Courses for English learners begin in the student’s native language and teach English. The courses focus on four key areas of language learning: vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and culture. TumblebookLibrary
TumblebookLibrary contains animated talking picture books, short videos, and chapter books, fiction and non-fiction, for grades K-3. Lexile and AR reading levels and grade levels are provided, as well as books in several non-English languages. Puzzles and games enrich some of the books.
