This is a self-discovery program that encourages participants to take control of their own learning and utilize their lifelong learning skills through exploration and PLAY. Participants are encouraged to work together and share with each other their discoveries, techniques and "how to's". In addition you can contact the Library Challenge: Electronic Resources Edition Lite Team (Jane Healy and Julie Erickson) at sdlibrarychallenge@gmail.com or 1-800-423-6665.
How do I access the electronic resources?
Inside your school or library you should have direct click-and-go access to all the resources listed here. At home, you can access all the resources but AncestryLibrary and CAMIO with an SDLN member library card, a SD State Library library card or a school database barcode and password. Request a State Library e-card for your personal use.
If you have questions about access, contact the Library Challenge: Electronic Resources Edition Lite Team (Jane Healy and Julie Erickson) at sdlibrarychallenge@gmail.com or 1-800-423-6665.
Who can participate in the challenge?
-South Dakota academic, public, and school library and teaching staff regardless of position and status (full and part time, certified and paraprofessional).
-SD public library trustees, Friends, and Library Foundation members.
-South Dakota state employees
If you are not a staff member of a South Dakota school or library, you are welcome to follow along.
How is the Electronic Resource Challenge Lite different than the Electronic Resources Challenge?
The Challenge Lite is the same amount of work in a different format. All ten lessons are available at once, allowing participants the opportunity to complete the challenge when it fits their schedule. In addition, participants do not need to create a blog to keep track of their lessons. Lessons are submitted via an online form. Comments will not be made on individual lessons, so if participants have questions about access, they will need to email the Challenge Lite team at sdlibrarychallenge@gmail.com
What if I've already completed the challenge?
The 2015 Electronic Resources Challenge Lite has an Advanced option for those who have taken the Basic Challenge previously, but want to review or dig deeper. There are different Challenge Lite types depending on your experience and needs.
| Challenge type | Who it's for | CE Contact Hours | Work Expected |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic Challenge Lite | Those who have never completed the Challenge: librarians, trustees, school teachers & staff, volunteers, state employees | 9 | Completion of all lessons |
| Advanced Challenge Lite | Those who have completed a Challenge previously, but want to review or dig deeper | 9 | Completion of all Advanced lessons |
| Common Core connections Lite | Teachers/school library staff | 9 | Completion of CCC lessons: Name standard to be addressed and brief synopsis of how the resource will be used to address that standard |
| Basic or Advanced + Common Core connections Lite | Those who want to do it all! | 18 | Completion of Basic or Advanced + CCC |
How long do I have to complete the Challenge Lite and how much time will it take?
The Electronic Resources Challenge Lite will begin June 1, 2015 and end August 3, 2015. All lessons will be available on June 1, 2015. Since this is a self-directed learning program, you decide how much time you need to complete the lessons. Some participants may choose to devote one hour per week; it can be broken up into 15 minutes a day. Library Directors are encouraged to give staff work time to complete the program. Participants who do the program at home or on their own time may elect to spend more time with the lessons.
How do I track my progress for the Electronic Resources Challenge Lite?
All participants will submit lessons via a form. You may want to keep a word document to keep your lessons in to refer back to.
Will there be any training classes offered to show staff how to do this?
Electronic Resources training for public, school and academic libraries and in-services for school staffs is available and can be scheduled with the Library Challenge: Electronic Resources Lite Team (Jane Healy and Julie Erickson) at sdlibrarychallenge@gmail.com or by calling 1-800-423-6665.
Many of the vendors provide webinars that are listed on the State Library training calendar.
What if I need help? Who can I call?
Since this program is self-directed, you are encouraged to work with colleagues along your journey of discovery. You can also contact Jane or Julie for help.
Will I receive Continuing Education (CE) Contact Hours for this?
